I’m feeling very lucky this week – we get to be in Maui celebrating Max’s Nana’s 80th birthday! And because of all of the added sun exposure I knew I would be getting on this tropical vacation, I thought of this trip as the perfect excuse to buy a new SPF product I’ve been dying to try… the cushion compact!
What is the cushion compact you may ask? Well, it’s being touted as the next generation of BB cream. Named ‘best Korean beauty product’ in Vogue, this latest craze in Korean skincare is supposed to be lightweight but still provide good coverage, smoothing and evening your skin while boasting the added benefit of SPF 50+. As the name suggests, it’s packaged in a hard round plastic compact containing a sponge-like apparatus, and comes with a microbial puff to soak up the product for easy application. It’s no secret that Korean women take their skin care seriously, and are rewarded with legendarily good skin. They know what they’re doing! So when they all seem to be in agreement on one awesome product? Well, I just couldn’t ignore it.
There are quite a few Korean brands manufacturing the cushion compact right now, but unfortunately they can be quite difficult to find in the US. That’s why I ended up trying the Laneige BB Cushion, which is available at Target (!!!) and actually had really amazing reviews. The verdict? I think it’s safe to say that I’m a convert. I feel like it gives really good coverage but doesn’t look too heavy. It’s also really perfect for warm weather, with a cooling effect that seems to last through the day. The only thing I’m not crazy about is the smell, which is kind of floral; I don’t like that I keep catching whiffs of it all day. Despite that, I now understand why this awesome little product has quickly become a favorite amongst industry insiders.
